A Message from the President

April, 2015
Fellow Boating Enthusiasts,
Spring is upon us and the hot summer days are just ahead. We are all glad that the low water levels are behind us. The water is now near its long-term average, which is good news for all of us! And we should have plenty of great fishing on Mona Lake as The Michigan Department of Fish and Wildlife continued their fish stocking again this year. They have now stocked over 2,000 muskies and almost 35,000 walleye. We also have a good, healthy population of smallmouth bass.
Your Board has been busy this past year helping improve the lake. Last Spring, we removed two and a half truckloads of hard debris from the Channel. This included over 80 tree trunks, tons of old slab wood, a dozen chunks of concrete from the old Lake Harbor Road Bridge and five tires. We also sprayed the lake for Eurasian milfoil. Together, these two projects cost us $62,000. As a not-for-profit organization, we must pay cash for all this work. We cannot borrow, and this is why we are again asking for your support this year. Your contribution will enable us to continue this work and rebuild our depleted funds. This year, we again will be treating selectively to keep Eurasian Milfoil in check. Remember, we only do this where we find Milfoil or Phragmites.
Finally, you can also keep up with our news on our Facebook page, Mona Lake Improvement Association.
